Dubai, Sept 8:
Pakistan booked their place in the Women’s Asia Cup semi-finals with a commanding 72-run victory over Hong Kong, China, bouncing back strongly after their heavy defeat to India earlier in the tournament.
Batting first, Pakistan posted 143 for eight, setting Hong Kong a challenging target on a surface where run-scoring proved difficult. Hong Kong’s chase quickly unravelled as Pakistan’s bowlers applied sustained pressure.
Spinner Nashra Sandhu was the standout performer, producing a sensational six-wicket haul to dismantle the Hong Kong batting order. Her spell ensured that Pakistan never lost control of the contest and Hong Kong were eventually bowled out for just 71.
The comprehensive victory provided Pakistan with an important boost after their earlier loss to India. The result not only secured their passage to the last four but also restored confidence in the squad as they entered the knockout stage.
Sandhu’s performance was particularly significant. Her ability to take wickets at regular intervals prevented Hong Kong from building partnerships and turned what could have been a competitive chase into a one-sided contest.
Pakistan will now shift their attention to the semi-finals, where they will face a considerably tougher challenge.
