The US House of Representatives has approved a new bill to tighten the noose on Russia-Iran. 262 lawmakers voted in favor and 159 against. The 61-page bill has now been sent to US President Trump for signature. This bill was also passed in the US Senate last month by 86-11 votes. The stated purpose of the US sanctions is to reduce Russia’s sources of income that are being used to fund the war against Ukraine from 2022.

Some senior Democratic lawmakers in the House of Representatives objected to the bill. Democratic lawmakers were concerned that this could give Trump the power to impose very broad tariffs and that they could be misused.
Let us tell you that the name of the bill is Lindsey O. in honor of the late Senator Lindsey Graham. Graham Sanctions Russia and Iran Act of 2026. It is named in honor of Lindsey Graham, who was a leading supporter of sanctions against Russia.

The most important target of the bill is Russia’s energy sector. The purpose of this bill is to create economic pressure on big countries that buy oil and gas from Russia and reduce its energy income. This bill could give the US President the authority to impose tariffs on goods from third countries that buy large quantities of oil and gas from Russia. Its biggest impact may be on countries like China and India. Because both these countries are among the big countries purchasing energy from Russia.
