Passenger Train Catches Fire at Sasaram Station in Bihar
A passenger train bound for Patna caught fire early Monday morning at Sasaram railway station in Bihar.
Thick smoke billowed from one of the coaches of the Sasaram‑Patna fast passenger train as firefighters and railway personnel battled the flames.
Preliminary inquiry indicated that a short circuit likely triggered the fire. The blaze erupted around 6 a.m. while the train stood at platform six, minutes before departure. Panic spread among passengers on the platform, but everyone escaped safely.
Railway Police and fire brigade teams reached the site quickly and brought the fire under control. One coach was completely gutted. Officials began detaching the damaged coach and inspecting the train before resuming operations.
The incident followed a similar fire on Sunday in a Delhi‑bound Rajdhani Express near Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, where an air‑conditioned coach caught fire. All passengers were rescued safely in that case as well.
Railway authorities have ordered a nationwide audit of fire‑safety systems in passenger coaches and related infrastructure to prevent future incidents.
