Peacock renews ‘The Traitors’ through season 8 after Emmy sweep

Peacock is doubling down on one of its biggest reality television successes, renewing The Traitors through Season 8 following the series’ strong ratings performance and an impressive showing at the Emmy Awards.

The renewal ensures that the murder-mystery competition will remain part of Peacock’s programming slate for years to come, with host and executive producer Alan Cumming continuing to preside over the elaborate game from its iconic Scottish castle setting.

The latest season delivered a significant increase in viewership, with the series recording a 72 percent jump compared with the previous season. The show also accumulated more than 8.1 billion minutes watched, further establishing The Traitors as one of Peacock’s most successful reality franchises.

Set against the dramatic backdrop of a Scottish castle, The Traitors brings together a group of contestants who compete in a series of missions while attempting to identify the secret “Traitors” among them. Each episode combines strategy, alliances and deception, with contestants facing banishments as they attempt to survive until the finale and claim the prize.

Cumming has become a defining presence on the series, guiding contestants through the increasingly elaborate twists and maintaining the darkly theatrical atmosphere that has helped distinguish The Traitors from other reality competitions.

The renewal also comes as the franchise continues to expand beyond its established format. A new celebrity season is scheduled to arrive in early 2027, bringing another group of well-known personalities into the castle to compete in the high-stakes game.

Meanwhile, Peacock and NBC are preparing to introduce The Traitors: New Blood, a civilian-focused spinoff that will give everyday contestants an opportunity to enter the world of secret identities, missions and banishments.

The Traitors: New Blood is set to premiere Thursday on NBC before becoming available to stream on Peacock, broadening the franchise’s reach beyond its celebrity and established competition formats.

The expansion comes at a time when reality television remains a major part of streaming and broadcast entertainment, with competition formats continuing to attract audiences through social media discussion and weekly viewing.
