‘People Move On’: Dutton Ranch Stars Address Surprising Showrunner Exit

Yellowstone spin-off series Dutton Ranch‘s Season 2 renewal comes with a showrunner exit. The show’s main stars have broken their silence on this departure.

What did Dutton Ranch’s stars say about the showrunner’s exit?

The first season of Dutton Ranch was a success, earning 12.9 million global viewers within the first seven days. The show stars Kelly Reilly as Beth Dutton and Cole Hauser as Rip Wheeler, continuing their journey from Yellowstone.

Although everything has been a success, the creator, writer, and showrunner, Chad Feeman, exited the show due to creative differences. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in May 2026, the co-stars, also serving as executive producers, broke their silence on this departure.

Answering the question on Feeman’s departure, Hauser said, “Showrunners change all the time. This business is about adapting. We’ve been doing this for a long time. Things change. People move on.”

To which Reilly continued, “We finished season one with Chad beautifully. We finished this season together. It was a really difficult but really satisfying show to make. And so was Yellowstone. So is anything worth making. We’re all creative minds, and we all work together, and I’m so proud of that.”

Dutton Ranch Season 1 is still ongoing, with the finale airing on July 3 on Paramount+. There is no release date for Season 2.
