People’s trust is with ‘AAP’ even today and will remain with massive victory in 2027: Bhagwant Mann
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann today turned the floor of the Punjab Assembly into a decisive assertion of political authority, with his government winning the confidence motion unanimously, sending a clear message that attempts to destabilize the Punjab government have failed. Describing the people’s mandate as a symbol of strong faith, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann announced that the majority base of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) remains intact, which will be clearly visible from an even bigger decision in 2027. Regarding the opposition, he termed Congress’s absence in the House as tacit support and raised questions on the organizational structure of BJP. He also hinted at a major constitutional battle by announcing that the Punjab government will approach the President demanding strict anti-defection legal proposals or the right of recall. Describing AAP as a durable national force that is not affected by defections, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann stressed that our party represents the trust of the people, which cannot be broken. He said that misuse of institutions like ED and CBI weakens the Constitution made by Baba Sahib Ambedkar.
A total of 88 AAP MLAs were present during the House proceedings, while two AAP MLAs are currently abroad and two are in jail. Apart from this, two MLAs are admitted in the hospital. The confidence motion received unanimous support in the House, highlighting the strength and unity of the Bhagwant Mann government.
Addressing the Assembly after presenting the confidence motion, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann stressed that efforts are being made to destabilize the government through false and misleading information, but the people of Punjab stand firmly with the government. He said that these days false rumors are being spread to destabilize the state government, due to which a feeling of doubt is being created in the minds of the people. However, the people of Punjab have time and again shown clear confidence in the government and its policies.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the entire opposition is in a state of despair because despite their negative campaigning, they are not getting any support from the people.
Commenting on the internal strife of the opposition, the Chief Minister asserted that the opposition is completely entangled among themselves and their leadership is divided with leaders fighting among themselves for power. The opposition leader and his own brother live in the same house but their parties have different flags. He said that on the contrary, the ruling AAP party is completely united, whose every volunteer is making concerted efforts for the progress of Punjab.
Regarding legislative and political activism, he said that the opposition parties are not able to digest that the Jagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026 has been passed, because this Act will not allow them to carry forward their divisive agenda. He further said that the increasing presence of AAP from Gujarat to across the country has put the BJP and its allies in a state of uneasiness. ‘AAP’ has now spread from Jammu to Goa, which is giving sleepless nights to both BJP and Congress, because these parties have been preferring to play friendly match of power instead of raising people-centric issues.
Reiterating the ideological strength of the party, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said unlike Congress, Akali Dal or BJP, AAP cannot be broken as the party has emerged to clean the political system. He said that the change of loyalty of some opportunistic leaders does not matter as the people of Punjab stand firmly with the government and its unique initiatives.
He further said that after the departure of the defectors, the opposition parties were making false claims that AAP MLAs were in touch with them, while their own leaders did not make eye contact with each other.
Expressing concerns about the democratic environment, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the country is going through difficult times, where democratic rules are being endangered and the Constitution is being broken. This is a grave insult to the chief architect of the Constitution, Baba Sahib Ambedkar, which is absolutely unacceptable. He further said that votes are being hijacked and central agencies are being misused to suppress the voice of democracy.
Continuing his criticism against BJP, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann remarked that BJP has no cadre of its own. Celebrities come, contest elections and then go. If seen, out of their 240 MPs, 125 are from Congress, which shows that they have no base of their own. He further said that the leaders who changed parties have stabbed the people and their mandate in the back. He said that I will meet the President of India and demand amendments so that such leaders can be recalled.
Talking about governance and development, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann highlighted a major irrigation initiative and said that for the first time in the history of Punjab, water is being released from May 1 so that farmers can benefit from it. Before the paddy season, 4,000 kilometers of new aquifers and 3,000 kilometers of pipelines have been commissioned. He further said that 21,000 cusecs of water has been released to test the system and plug any deficiencies.
He further said that "The water released is equal to the supply of two Bhakra canals, which will bring more benefits to the farmers. It will also help in recharging underground water through dedicated recharge schemes, which will benefit future generations." He further said that recharge points have been made in canals and rivers, due to which the water level has increased by two to four meters.
Highlighting the long-term vision, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this decision is aimed at securing the future of the coming generations, as the existence of Punjab depends on water. It is a matter of great pride that last year 21 lakh cubic meters of water was recharged. This historic initiative will further strengthen the agriculture sector of Punjab along with the management of underground water.
