Petrol expensive in India, continuous relief in Pakistan; After all, why is the picture different in the two countries?
New Delhi. Different trends are being seen regarding the prices of petrol and diesel in India and Pakistan. Petrol and diesel prices increased several times in India during May, while in neighboring Pakistan, fuel prices have been reduced for the fifth consecutive time. In such a situation, the question is arising that why is the trend of fuel prices so different in both the countries?
In India’s capital New Delhi, petrol is being sold at around Rs 102 per liter and diesel at around Rs 95 per litre. Whereas in Pakistan, the price of petrol is 377.78 Pakistani rupees and high speed diesel is 378.78 Pakistani rupees per liter, which is around 129-130 rupees in Indian currency. That means, despite the reduction, fuel in Pakistan is still costlier than India.
Impact of war and crude oil prices
After increasing tension in West Asia and conflict related to Iran, there was a sharp rise in the prices of crude oil in the global market. After February 2026, crude oil had reached $ 126 per barrel in the international market. This affected the prices of petrol and diesel in countries around the world.
During that period, fuel prices in India were kept stable for a long time, whereas in many countries including Pakistan, prices started increasing immediately. According to experts, prices were not increased during the election season in India, but after the elections were over, petrol and diesel became expensive in May.
First sharp increase in Pakistan, now reduction
The impact of war and expensive crude in Pakistan was directly passed on to consumers. At one time the prices of petrol and diesel there had increased by about 60 percent. However, now after the price of crude oil has fallen below $100 per barrel in the international market, the Government of Pakistan has started providing continuous relief.
Despite this, figures show that since the beginning of the war, petrol still remains expensive by 46.3 percent and diesel by 38.1 percent in Pakistan.
Why limited impact in India?
In India, oil marketing companies and the government did not pass the entire burden of international prices on to consumers. For this reason, relatively limited changes were seen in prices. However, after the recent increase, the impact of inflation on the common people has definitely increased.
Record increase in many countries
According to global data, countries like Myanmar, UAE and Fiji saw the highest jump in fuel prices. In the case of petrol, there was an increase of about 78 percent in Myanmar, while in Fiji the price of diesel was reported to have increased by more than 110 percent. Even in countries like Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the effect of fuel inflation still persists.
