Petroleum Ministry gave information: Commercial LPG supply restored to pre-crisis level in West Asia

New Delhi, June 25. The central government on Thursday restored the supply of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to commercial customers like hotels and restaurants to pre-crisis levels as the pressure of the West Asia crisis eased. Along with this, the restrictions imposed on supplies to various regions during the West Asia conflict were also lifted.

Restrictions imposed regarding supplies to various areas were also removed.

The restrictions on commercial LPG have been lifted following improvement in domestic production and expected arrival of imported LPG cargo, the Petroleum Ministry said in a statement. Bulk LPG supplies, which were halted at the beginning of the crisis, have also been partially restored to 50 percent of pre-crisis consumption levels.

The move is another step taken by the government towards rolling back the emergency measures imposed during the Mideast conflict. At that time, officials prioritized the availability of domestic cooking gas due to fears of supply disruptions in West Asia.

These restrictions were imposed after LPG supplies from West Asia were disrupted due to the Iran conflict. India imports about 90 percent of its cooking gas from here. To protect domestic consumption, the government had initially stopped commercial LPG supplies to hotels, restaurants and industrial customers.

The supply was later restored to about 70 percent of normal levels in a phased manner. However, many sectors were still facing restrictions of up to 50 percent of their normal allocations as officials sought to conserve fuel reserves amid concerns over the availability of imports.

According to the ministry statement, ‘In a major relief to industrial and commercial LPG customers, the government has lifted restrictions on non-domestic LPG supply in various sectors and has restored supplies to pre-West Asia crisis levels.’

Along with this, the supply of bulk LPG, which was stopped at the beginning of the crisis, has been relaxed to 50 percent of the pre-crisis consumption level. This has brought great relief to commercial and industrial customers. According to the statement, this restoration has been done following the recent improvement in the LPG supply situation.
