Describing the Indian community as the strongest base of this partnership, he said that Indians settled in every part of New Zealand are working to bring the two countries closer.

The Prime Minister said that the real strength of New Zealand is its people, who have accepted the Indian community and expressed confidence in their talent. He said that people of Indian origin have made their mark in business, administration, sports and many other fields.

He mentioned many personalities of Indian origin including Air New Zealand Chief Executive Officer Nikhil Ravi Shankar, former Governor General Anand Satyanand and cricketer Rachin Ravindra (PM Modi New Zealand) and said that these are examples of strong relations between the two countries.

The Prime Minister said that this year the sports relations between India and New Zealand are completing 100 years. He reminded that a century ago the Indian hockey team had visited New Zealand and Major Dhyanchand had won the hearts of the people here with his game.
