New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leaving on a state visit to Seychelles from today. This tour will continue till June 29. During the visit, which will be held at the invitation of Dr. Patrick Herminy, President of the Republic of Seychelles, the Prime Minister will attend the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the country’s National Day as ‘Guest of Honour’*.

Emphasis will be on giving new strength to India-Seychelles relations

In his message issued before the visit, Prime Minister Modi said that Seychelles is an important maritime neighbor and reliable partner of India. He said that both the countries have an important role in taking forward the shared vision of ‘Vision Ocean’ and ‘Global South’. He expressed confidence that this visit will give a new direction in strengthening security, stability and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region.

There will be a special celebration of 50 years of diplomatic relations

The Prime Minister said that this year marks the completion of 50 years of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles. He said that the friendship between the two countries is based on mutual trust, democratic values, respect for diversity and strong people-to-people ties.

He also said that after the successful visit of President Dr. Patrick Harmini to India in February 2026, the talks between the two countries will open new opportunities for cooperation and further strengthen bilateral relations.

Will become the first Indian Prime Minister to address the Parliament of Seychelles

Prime Minister Modi will also make a historic achievement during this visit. He will be the first Indian Prime Minister to address the National Assembly of Seychelles. He described it as a symbol of the shared democratic values ​​and parliamentary traditions of both the countries.

Will also communicate with the Indian community

During his visit, the Prime Minister will also meet the Indian community settled in Seychelles. He said that the Indian community there has been playing an important role in strengthening the friendship and cultural ties between the two countries for many generations and remains a strong bridge between the two countries.

Focus will be on increasing maritime cooperation in the Indian Ocean

Prime Minister Modi expressed confidence that this visit will further deepen the long-standing relations between India and Seychelles. He said the two countries will work together to advance maritime cooperation, regional security and shared prosperity in the Indian Ocean region.

Foreign Ministry also called the trip important

The Ministry of External Affairs said in its statement that relations between India and Seychelles are based on shared history, cultural affinity and strong people-to-people ties. According to the ministry, Seychelles is an important partner of India’s ‘Vision Ocean’ and ‘Global South’ policy in the Indian Ocean region.

The statement said that this visit of Prime Minister Modi will further strengthen the old friendship between the two countries and will give new momentum to cooperation in trade, security, development and other areas.

The Ministry of External Affairs also reminded that in April, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar had met Seychelles Foreign Minister Barry Faure during the 9th Indian Ocean Conference held in Mauritius. During that time, India reiterated its commitment to provide all possible support to Seychelles in dealing with the current economic challenges.
