Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to the new Prime Minister of Britain, Andy Burnham, and congratulated him on assuming office. In a social media post, PM Modi said that India and the UK are committed to taking their strategic partnership to new heights. He added that India and the UK will work together to reap the benefits of the trade agreement.
Regarding this conversation, PM Modi wrote on X, “It was a pleasure to speak to the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Andy Barham. I congratulated him on assuming office and wished him a successful tenure. We agreed to work together in areas such as technology, innovation, defence, security, clean energy, education and people-to-people relations and take the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to new heights.”
PM Modi further wrote in his post, “We will work together to fully leverage the trade and investment opportunities offered by the recently implemented India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement for the shared prosperity and well-being of the people of both countries.”
It is noteworthy that the trade agreement between India and the UK has come into effect from July 15. This has resulted in a significant reduction in tariffs. It is believed that this trade agreement will boost the bilateral flow of goods and services between the two countries. It can also give a new impetus to India-UK business.
