IIT Delhi to Become an Educational Powerhouse with 18 NITs
This year, IIT Delhi has established a large network to strengthen the country’s educational infrastructure. The institute has signed agreements with 18 National Institutes of Technology (NITs) across the country. Under this initiative, called “ALIGN” (Academic Linkages for Innovation and National Growth), students and faculty will directly benefit from shared laboratories, joint research, and innovation activities.
Major Investment of 600 Crore Rupees in Research and Innovation
The institute has conducted sponsored research and consultancy projects worth approximately ₹600 crore in the financial year 2025-26. Statistically, over the past 10 years, the institute has conducted research worth ₹4,000 crore. Currently, IIT Delhi’s portfolio includes 1,871 intellectual properties, including 1,756 patents. In the past year alone, 196 new patents were filed and 26 new startups were developed.
Special initiatives for students’ mental health and career
The convocation ceremony also discussed the institute’s new initiatives. To help students secure better careers, a “Placement Mentorship Program” has been launched, where experienced students will train their juniors in resume preparation and interview preparation. To alleviate the mental stress during placements, a “Call for a Friend” program has been launched, where trained volunteers will provide psychological support to students.
This convocation is not only an occasion for conferring degrees, but also a strong step towards India’s commitment to a “developed India.”
