New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a visit to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan from 29 August to 1 September 2026. Before his visit, the Prime Minister clarified India's roadmap for regional security and cooperation. He said that it is necessary to work together to deal with challenges like terrorism, separatism and extremism and the entire region should be free from these threats.
During this visit, Prime Minister Modi will first go to Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan. There he will pay a state visit at the invitation of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. After this he will reach Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, where he will participate in the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.
The Prime Minister said that during the visit, there will be discussions on further strengthening India's strategic relations with Central Asia. Along with this, issues of increasing cooperation in many important areas including trade, investment, digital connectivity, defense and energy will also be on the agenda.
PM Modi will be in Tashkent on 29th and 30th August
Prime Minister Modi will be in Tashkent on 29 and 30 August. He said that there has been significant progress in the strategic partnership between India and Uzbekistan in the last few years.
In Tashkent, Prime Minister Modi will meet Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. There will be talks between the two leaders on furthering cooperation in trade and investment as well as digital connectivity, defense and energy sectors.
Will visit Shastri Memorial and Mahatma Gandhi Center
The Prime Minister will also visit Shastri Memorial in Tashkent. Apart from this, he will visit the Mahatma Gandhi Center located at Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies.
The Prime Minister said that both these places reflect the strong cultural and people-to-people ties between India and Uzbekistan. Relations between the two countries at the civilizational and people-to-people level have existed for a long time.
Modi will attend SCO Summit in Bishkek
After his visit to Uzbekistan, Prime Minister Modi will visit Bishkek on the invitation of Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Japarov. Here he will participate in the 26th SCO summit.
This summit is taking place at a time when the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is completing 25 years of its establishment. India has been an active and constructive member of SCO since 2017.
The Prime Minister said that he will work towards taking forward India's thinking regarding the region at the summit. India's approach focuses on the three key pillars of security, connectivity and opportunity.
India's emphasis on collective action against terrorism
Prime Minister Modi said that India wants to work together with other SCO member countries towards building a region that is free from terrorism, separatism and extremism.
He said that these challenges remain a constant threat to peace and stability in India's neighborhood and beyond. In such a situation, it is necessary to face these challenges through cooperation and collective efforts among regional countries.
Focus will be on strategic relations with Central Asia
In the Prime Minister's visit, there will be special emphasis on giving new impetus to India's strategic relations with Central Asia. Opportunities for enhancing cooperation in a wide range of areas, from trade and investment to digital connectivity, defense and energy, are expected to be discussed.
While India will try to strengthen bilateral relations through the visit to Tashkent and Bishkek, India will also put forward its priorities on issues related to regional security and stability on the SCO platform.
