Lucknow: In Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh, the police has arrested the absconding accused of POCSO Act after an encounter. The accused has been identified as 25-year-old Ankul Jatav, resident of village Purvanain, Saurikh. According to the police, Ankul had escaped from police custody from the court premises four days ago and since then the search for him was going on.
How did the accused escape from the court premises?
The matter is of 30 August 2026. A serious case was registered against Ankul under the POCSO Act. He was brought to the court for appearance. Meanwhile, he dodged the police and escaped from the court premises.
After the incident, a case of absconding was registered against the accused in Kannauj Kotwali police station. Several police teams were busy searching for him for the last four days. The police were also finding out where he was hiding after escaping from the court and who helped him during this period.
Siege and encounter near water tank
On September 3 at around 3 pm, the police received information from the informer that Ankul was present near the water tank in village Danpur of Saurikh police station area. As soon as the information was received, Saurikh police station, SOG and surveillance team immediately reached the spot and cordoned off the entire area.
According to the police, seeing himself surrounded, Ankul started firing at the police team with the intention of killing him. After this the police retaliated in self-defense. In this action, the accused was shot in his left leg and he got injured and fell down. The police arrested him in an injured condition.
Weapon recovered, admitted to hospital
During the search, one pistol, two live cartridges and three spent cartridges were recovered from the possession of the accused. Injured Ankul has been sent to CHC Saurikh for treatment. Police have registered another case in Saurikh police station regarding this new incident.
Now the police is interrogating the accused as to where he was hiding for four days and who had helped him in escaping from the court premises. Police say that further legal action is being taken in the matter and lapses in security arrangements will also be investigated.
