Political parties have spent Rs. for Bihar assembly elections. Gujarati had collected funds of Rs 281 crores
Patna, 17 June 2026: A detailed report of the expenditure worth crores of rupees made by various political parties during the assembly elections to be held in Bihar in the year 2025 has come to light. According to the report of ‘Association for Democratic Reforms’ (ADR), the major political parties participating in this election had collected a total election fund of Rs 281.32 crore, against which half of the expenditure was Rs 193.47 crore. The largest portion of this election expenditure has been revealed to be used for the publicity and travel of the leaders.
In this report of ADR, the expenditure details filed before the Election Commission by 5 national parties and 5 regional parties have been analyzed. According to the report, these 10 leading parties had received a total fund of Rs 281.323 crore. While his total expenditure was Rs 193.466 crore. Thus, a huge difference of approximately Rs 88 crore has been seen between the funds deposited with the parties and the declared expenditure.
The largest portion of the total expenditure of political parties is used for election campaigning. All the parties together have spent Rs 100.429 crore only on campaigning, which is 36.68 percent of the total election expenditure. Apart from this, parties have spent Rs 79.539 crore (29.05 percent of the total expenditure) on helicopter rides and travel of leaders, which is the second highest expenditure after campaigning. Also, Rs 62.07 crore was distributed as lump sum fund to the candidates by the parties.
According to the report, parties have spent Rs 13.074 crore on virtual campaigning through social media platforms and other digital mediums. Apart from this, as per the strict guidelines of the Election Commission, the parties had to pay Rs 3.886 crore for publishing the criminal records of the candidates in newspapers and TV, while other miscellaneous expenses were recorded at Rs 14.804 crore.
BSP did not disclose fund details
A total of 161 political parties participated in the Bihar Assembly elections, which included 6 national parties, 10 regional parties Clarified and 145 registered unrecognized parties. However, this analysis was limited to only those 10 major parties for which expenditure details were available. These main parties include BJP, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), CPI(M), RJD, JDU, LJP (Ram Vilas), AIMIM and CPI. The report noted that Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) was the only national party which did not disclose any information about the funds collected at its central headquarters or at the state level during the elections.
