Powerful Yadav Brothers of Etah: Story of power, struggle and politics
In the politics of Uttar Pradesh, Etah district has always been the center of influential leaders, political faces with Bahubali image and caste equations. Only one family has dominated the politics in this district for the last three decades. Here the names of former MLA Rameshwar Singh Yadav and his brother Jugendra Singh Yadav are counted among the most influential leaders. This journey that started from Panchayat politics reached the Assembly, District Panchayat and the power center of Samajwadi Party.
There was a time when the discussion of any major electoral equation in Etah district was considered incomplete without the Yadav brothers. Even today, the influence of these two brothers remains a topic of discussion in the politics of Etah, Aliganj, Jalesar and surrounding districts. However, in the last few years, legal action, Gangster Act, property attachment and jail stay also gave a new turn to his political journey.
Journey from ravines to politics
It is often said in local political discussions and old political stories that in his youth, Rameshwar Yadav had contact with influential people of the rugged area. Later he chose the path of active politics and came close to the then regional leader Laturi Singh. According to political experts, he started his public political journey from Panchayat elections and gradually built a strong organization in rural areas. This was the period when the Yadav family started strengthening its hold through Panchayat representatives, cooperative institutions and local organizations. After this both the brothers did not look back.

Socialist politics gave a big platform
With the expansion of socialist politics in the 1990s, the stature of the Yadav brothers also increased. His activism increased in the organization of Samajwadi Party and his name started being included among those who created a strong base of the party in Etah district. His acceptance within the party continued to increase and gradually his influence spread to neighboring districts. It was also discussed in the political circles that he had direct access to the top leadership of the Samajwadi Party, which benefited him both in organization and electoral politics.
Rameshwar Yadav became MLA three times
Rameshwar Singh Yadav entered the assembly for the first time in 1996 by winning from Aliganj assembly seat. After this, he became MLA for the second time in 2002 and for the third time in 2012. Three consecutive election victories made him a big face of Etah district politics. Apart from assembly elections, Rameshwar Yadav also tried his luck in Lok Sabha politics. He contested the elections from Farrukhabad Lok Sabha seat, but could not win. After this, he also had to face defeat in the 2017 and 2022 assembly elections. However, despite the defeat, his political influence did not end completely.

Jugendra became the ‘king’ of district panchayat politics
While Rameshwar Yadav became the face of assembly politics, Jugendra Singh Yadav created his own empire in district panchayat politics. His strong hold on the post of District Panchayat President and the network of Panchayat representatives was discussed for years. For a long time, the politics of District Panchayat in Etah district revolved around the Yadav family. Even at present, the political activism of the family continues and Rekha Yadav is considered an important face of district Panchayat politics.
Why was Etah called ‘Fort of Yadav brothers’
Political analysts believe that the biggest strength of the Yadav brothers was their organization. He created a network of Panchayat representatives, block heads, village heads and local workers which proved decisive in many elections. Apart from Etah district, his political influence was also discussed in Aligarh, Kasganj, Farrukhabad and surrounding areas. This was the reason why his views were taken seriously even within the Samajwadi Party.
Difficulties increased after BJP government came to power
After the formation of the BJP government in the state in 2017, the political and legal challenges of the Yadav brothers increased rapidly. The investigation into the cases already registered against the two brothers was intensified and many new cases were also registered. Police and administration took action in cases related to rape, Gangster Act, land grabbing, fraud and other serious charges. According to administrative records, action was taken against properties belonging to the family in several districts including Etah, Aligarh, Agra, Mathura and Farrukhabad.

Attachment and jail changed the political picture
Properties worth crores of rupees were attached during the administrative action. Police and administration called it a part of the campaign against mafia and strong elements. At the same time, supporters termed these actions as political vendetta. During the proceedings in various cases, both the brothers also had to go to jail. After being in jail for a long time, he got relief from the courts and was later released on bail.
Politics became active again as soon as he came out of jail
After coming out of jail, the Yadav brothers intensified their political activities. His activism increased in Samajwadi Party programs and his presence again became visible among the workers. Recently, the visit of Samajwadi Party National President Akhilesh Yadav to Etah was also in the news. In political circles, this is being linked to the increasing activism of the Yadav family and the election signals of 2027. There has been discussion in political circles for a long time about the closeness of the Yadav brothers to the top leadership of the Samajwadi Party. Supporters believe that his hold on the party organization and his ability to communicate with top leaders have been the main basis of his political strength.
Will the old era return again in the 2027 elections?
Now the biggest question is regarding the 2027 assembly elections. Will Rameshwar Yadav once again contest elections from Aliganj? Will the Yadav family be able to regain its old political influence? Or will the changed political equations pose new challenges to them? Experts who keep an eye on Etah’s politics believe that despite the legal challenges, the Yadav brothers still cannot be taken lightly.
His network at the Panchayat level, his acceptance in socialist politics and the support base he has built over the years make him a big player in the politics of the district even today. This is the reason why as soon as the discussion about the 2027 election battle begins, the names of Rameshwar and Jugendra Yadav have once again come to the center of political debate in Etah.
