Patna: Following the Bankipur assembly by-election, a new controversy has emerged in Bihar politics. Jan Suraj founder Prashant Kishore held a press conference and accused the Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of influencing the election process and taking unfair action against party workers. He claimed that evidence related to this matter has also been presented to the Election Commission.
Serious allegations made in press conference
In a press conference held after the Bankipur by-election, Prashant Kishore alleged that Jan Suraj activists were detained without valid reason during the election. According to him, the police picked up many people from their homes at night, even though they were not involved in any law and order related activities.
He said that the entire incident has been mentioned in the complaint sent to the Election Commission and action has been demanded against the concerned officials.
Allegations of ‘attempt to influence elections’
Prashant Kishor claimed that more than 50 people, mostly local residents, were detained. He alleged that these actions were aimed at preventing Jan Suraj activists from being active during the elections.
They also alleged that attempts were made to influence voters and impact the voting process in some areas. However, there was no immediate official response from the police authorities concerned.
SSP accused of political bias
During the press conference, Prashant Kishore accused the Patna SSP of acting under political pressure. He said that if an officer wants to be active in politics, he should leave government service and join politics.
He said that the police administration should operate impartially, within the bounds of the Constitution and the law. He also stated that Jan Suraj will continue to pursue this issue at the legal and constitutional level.
Demand for action, police’s side is yet to come
Prashant Kishor demanded that the Election Commission and relevant authorities conduct an impartial investigation into the matter and take action against those found guilty. During the press conference, he also presented to the media some individuals who he claimed were detained during the elections.
At this time, no detailed official statement has been issued by the Patna Police or the SSP’s office regarding these allegations. Political circles are closely monitoring the further course of action and the reactions of the concerned parties.
