Mumbai: Actor Preity Zinta has opened up about the disappointing box-office performance of Batwara 1947, saying she remains proud of the film and believes an actor can only control the effort put into a project.
The film, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and starring Zinta alongside Sunny Deol, marked her return to the big screen after an eight-year break. However, the Partition-era drama failed to make the expected impact at the box office.
Preity says hard work matters more than the outcome
Speaking about the film’s performance, Zinta said she follows the principle of karam — doing one’s duty and leaving the outcome to God.
She said she gives her complete effort to every project and described her approach as giving her “1000 per cent” before accepting that the final result is beyond her control. She also said she remains very proud of Batwara 1947.
The actor’s comments come after the film’s theatrical run failed to match expectations. Reports on its box-office performance showed a modest opening followed by a steady slowdown, with the film eventually earning just over Rs 50 crore worldwide.
Comeback film did not end as hoped
For Zinta, Batwara 1947 was significant as her return to acting after several years away from cinema. She had stepped back from regular acting while focusing on her personal life and family.
Despite the film’s commercial setback, Zinta has already moved on to her next project, Vibe, directed by Kunal Kemmu. She plays an undercover agent in the film and underwent physical training for the demanding role. Vibe is scheduled for theatrical release on September 18.
Her response to the film’s performance reflects a broader reality of cinema: an actor can invest months of work, preparation and emotion in a project, but its final reception ultimately rests with audiences.
