Preparation for 8th Pay Commission intensifies: Big news regarding salary?

New Delhi. The discussion regarding the 8th Central Pay Commission has intensified among central government employees and pensioners. About 55 lakh central employees and about 69 lakh pensioners across the country are waiting for the recommendations of the new pay commission. The biggest expectation of the employees is regarding the possible improvement in basic salary, fitment factor, allowances and pension.

Most attention is paid to fitment factor

Fitment factor plays the most important role in Pay Commission. On this basis, the new basic salary of the employees is decided. A fitment factor of 2.57 was implemented in the 7th Pay Commission, after which the minimum basic pay increased from ₹7,000 to ₹18,000. Now many employee organizations and experts believe that in the 8th Pay Commission, consideration may be given to keeping the fitment factor between 2.5 to 3.0. However, no official decision has been taken yet in this regard.

What happens if fitment factor increases?

If the government approves higher fitment factor in future, it will have a direct impact on the basic salary of the employees. Along with this, many other payments may also increase, like Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Traveling Allowance (TA), Gratuity, Pension related benefits because many of these benefits are decided on the basis of basic salary.

Not only salary, other facilities also

This time the demand of employee organizations is not limited to increasing salaries only. They want that in the new pay commission, topics like review of pension system, gratuity limit, health facilities, restructuring of various allowances, improvement in service conditions should also be considered in detail.

Many employee organizations want the recommendations of the new pay commission to be finalized soon so that employees and pensioners can get benefits on time. He says that in view of rising inflation and cost of living, appropriate revision in the salary structure is necessary.

When can the recommendations come?

At present the work of 8th Pay Commission is going on. The Commission is receiving suggestions from various employee organizations, pensioners’ organizations and other parties. As per the official deadline, the commission has to submit its final report to the government within the stipulated period. After this the government will study the report and decide on the recommendations.
