Preparations for new government in Assam in full swing: BJP legislature party meeting
The political process regarding government formation is ongoing in Assam, and according to reports, the swearing-in ceremony is likely to take place on May 12. There is talk of Himanta Biswa Sarma taking oath as Chief Minister for the second time.
Himanta Biswa Sarma: Preparations have started once again for a major change in the politics of Assam. After the recent assembly election results in the state, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accelerated the process of government formation. In this sequence, an important meeting of the legislature party has been called today, May 10, in which the current Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is likely to be re-elected as the leader.
After this, a grand swearing-in ceremony will be organized in Guwahati on May 12, in which Himanta Biswa Sarma will once again take oath as the Chief Minister of Assam.
Important meeting of legislative party on 10th May
The BJP has scheduled a meeting under the supervision of the central leadership to select the leader of its legislative party in Assam. The party has appointed senior leaders as observers for this meeting, including JP Nadda and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. The formal leadership of the legislative party will be elected in the meeting, after which the process of government formation will be finalized.
The swearing-in ceremony of the new government is likely to be held on May 12 at 11 am at the Khanapara Veterinary College Field in Guwahati. This program is being considered a big event to decide the political direction of the state. The country’s top leadership is expected to attend the ceremony. Many senior leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have been invited. Apart from this, Chief Ministers of more than 20 states are also likely to attend.
Himanta will become Chief Minister for the second consecutive time
Himanta Biswa Sarma had recently resigned from the post of Chief Minister and assumed the responsibility as acting Chief Minister. Now he is going to take oath as Chief Minister for the second consecutive time. Under his leadership, the BJP has maintained a strong political hold in Assam and has continuously worked on development and administrative reforms.
In the recently declared election results, the NDA alliance has won a decisive victory in Assam. The BJP-led alliance has secured a clear majority in the 126-member assembly.

- Congress gets 19 seats
- 10 seats for AGP
- 10 seats for BPF
- AIUDF got only 2 seats
The majority figure was 64 seats, which the NDA easily crossed. In this election, Congress gained lead in some areas, especially in Muslim dominated areas, but it could not present an effective challenge in terms of total seats.
