Ujani Dam Infrastructure Project: JW Global Company today presented the comprehensive development plan for the proposed integrated infrastructure project at Ujani Dam area in Maharashtra. The project is envisioned by the company as the first actual implementation of the concept of 'The Seed' (Sustainable Eco-Enterprise District). The initiative aims to create a new model of sustainable development by combining renewable energy, state-of-the-art digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence-based innovation and circular economy development. The proposed development in the Ujani Dam area will include large-scale renewable energy generation, state-of-the-art battery energy storage systems and next-generation digital infrastructure. It is planned to develop an ecosystem that integrates energy and technology as well as efficient use of resources.

The concept of 'The Seed' is not only limited to the construction of traditional infrastructure and data centers, but has a broader vision of developing a sustainable sector based on low carbon emissions and prioritizing circular economy, coordinating data centers, renewable energy, education, food system, culture and community life.

2,000 MW floating solar power generation project

The project will have three major components. These include a 2,000 MW floating solar power plant, a 1,800 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and a 1,400 MW Artificial Intelligence (AI) and High Performance Computing (HPC) based data center to be set up on about 3,000 hectares of Ujni reservoir. The solar energy generated during the day will be used to meet the power requirements of the data center. The excess energy will be stored in the battery system to be used at night and during periods when solar power generation is low.

Planning to implement in phases

It is planned to implement this project in phases. It is proposed to build a 500 MW project in the first phase, aiming to take the total data center capacity to 1,400 MW by 2031. The project will be constructed subject to necessary statutory, technical and environmental clearances.

Ujani Project is an initiative that takes an integrated approach

Speaking about the concept of the project, Sanjay Waje, Operations Director, JW Group said, “The Ujani project is an integrated approach to building infrastructure that will accelerate India's next phase of digital development. By integrating renewable energy generation, battery energy storage and artificial intelligence-based computing infrastructure, we seek to develop a long-term model that combines technological advancements and responsible management of resources”.

“We will focus on implementing the project in a planned and phased manner, prioritizing environmental aspects, efficient management of water and energy as well as the interests of the local communities in the area. The project also has great potential for local employment generation, skill development and growth of complementary businesses.”

Proposed system for water management

An important aspect of this project is the system proposed for water management. The project is expected to require a maximum of 0.50 TMC of water per annum. The data center will use state-of-the-art closed-loop, direct-to-chip liquid cooling technology, supplemented by dry coolers, to minimize water consumption. Also a Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) system is proposed, no effluent will be released into the reservoir. Even after construction of the proposed floating solar power plant, about 91 percent of the total surface area of the reservoir will remain open outside the project.

Youth should be able to take advantage of these new employment opportunities

The project is expected to create around 2,800 permanent jobs, with the construction phase, supply chain and ancillary services likely to generate around 40,000 direct and indirect jobs. Employment opportunities can be found in various fields such as data center operations, electrical and mechanical engineering, information technology infrastructure, cyber security, operation of solar power plants, battery management, logistics and maintenance. For this, the company is also planning to implement training and skill development activities so that eligible local youth can take advantage of these new employment opportunities.

The demand for infrastructure is increasing rapidly

Mark Bailey, Global Director, JW Group said, “The demand for artificial intelligence-based computing, digital services and high-performance data infrastructure is growing rapidly. India has an opportunity to build a globally competitive digital infrastructure combined with reliable and sustainable energy solutions. The concept of 'The Seed' is based on this synergy.”

Our aim is to create long-term economic value in the respective region while developing infrastructure that meets international technology standards. At the same time, it is equally important for us to increase communication and engagement with local communities from the beginning and support initiatives related to healthcare, education, technical training and community development.”

Various related activities were proposed

As part of social commitment under the project, JW Group has proposed various initiatives related to health facilities, digital education, scholarships, technical skill development and community infrastructure in Bhimanagar area. The aim behind these initiatives is to link investment in infrastructure to broader local development opportunities.

Through the concept of 'The Seed', JW Global aims to create a new platform for technology-based economic growth and regional development while contributing to India's renewable energy ecosystem and digital infrastructure sector.
