Indian actor Prithviraj Sukumaran's Khalifa was set to make its digital debut across several streaming services after completing its theatrical run during the Onam season.
Directed by Vysakh, the Malayalam gangster drama had arrived in cinemas on August 20. The film had also been released during a busy Onam period, with Girish AD’s Bethlehem Kudumba Unit reaching theatres a day later.
Khalifa was scheduled to start streaming from October 9. Viewers were set to find the film across multiple platforms and languages, giving it a wider digital release after its theatrical run.
Prime Video and Lionsgate Play were set to carry the film in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi. It was also available through AP International South Cinema on Prime in South Indian languages and on Simply South.
The film was additionally scheduled to stream on Aha in Tamil and Telugu, while Malayalam viewers could watch it on Manorama Max. Starzplay was also set to make the film available across the Middle East and North Africa.
The digital release followed the film’s run in cinemas, where it had collected around ₹45.05 crore worldwide, according to the reported figures.
In KhalifaPrithviraj had played a simple shop owner whose life changed after he became involved in a gold smuggling operation.
The film had followed his character as he was pushed into the illegal trade after unexpected circumstances. The project marked another Malayalam release for the actor during a busy year.
Prithviraj had also appeared in other projects during 2026. His work had included the Malayalam films I, Nobody and Khalifaalong with the Hindi film Dayra. He had also made a cameo appearance in Tovino Thomas’ Pallichattambi.
In I, Nobodyhe had portrayed a middle-class government employee who became trapped inside a bank during a robbery. In Dayrahe had played a police officer who faced scrutiny while dealing with his case.
Prithviraj’s upcoming projects
Prithviraj had continued working on new projects after Khalifa. He was shooting for SS Rajamouli’s Telugu film Varanasi, in which he was set to play the antagonist.
The film also featured Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra and was scheduled for release in 2027.
The actor had another Malayalam project, Odiyan: The Age of Illusionin his upcoming lineup. The film was set to be directed by Rahul Sadasivan, who had previously directed Bramayugam and Dies Irae.
With Khalifa moving to streaming, audiences were set to watch Prithviraj’s latest Malayalam film across multiple digital platforms from October 9.
