Tackling the kitchen can sometimes be an tough task with its constant use often leaving it hard to get on top of the mess. But employing a cleaner isn’t always an option meaning it is something most people will have to do themselves.
However one professional cleaner regularly shares her tips on social media making it easier for others to tackle the jobs they often don’t like and can find difficult to do. Charlotte, a professional home cleaner, posts cleaning guidance and tips on TikTok, giving her 46,000 followers insight into her day-to-day work.
And the expert says she starts at one point in every room of the house – even the kitchen – and it might come as a surprise. She shared how she always begins at the top.
In a step-by-step guide she shares everything she does in a regular maintenance clean of a kitchen. She says: “I always start off with high dusting. I’m using an extendable magnetic duster there, and then I’m moving on to cleaning the cupboard fronts.”
She explains she always sprays onto the cloth and not straight onto the cupboards as “products can leave stains and drip”. She then cleans the table making sure she is “buffing over and drying everything off” before you moving on to cleaning everything that was on the table such as place mats.
Chairs come next followed by countertops where she uses a natural cleaner – Jangro Premium Citrus Cleaner – as the one she is working on is a marble top. She says: “I’m using a nice pH neutral cleaner, but one that’s also really good at peeling and cutting through all the grease and grime, so just spraying the product on, leaving that to soak, and then going and scrubbing it all over.” She then buffs the surfaces after they have been cleaned.
She said: “I use these microfibre glass cloths, and as I work my way around the kitchen, I tend to work from left to right. I will sanitise all the switches as I go around, and also making sure we are cleaning all the appliances down. So giving them a nice clean, and then shining up and buffing them over. So you always want to make sure you’re removing everything off the countertop, pulling everything forward, making sure you’re cleaning underneath everything and not just around.”
Charlotte then turns her attention to the gas hob which she begins to clean by removing everything from the cooker such as the burner tops and cleaning them thoroughly using Bar Keepers Power Clean but ensuring they are buffed clean as she warns the product contains acid so could cause damage if left behind.
She then uses a soap-filled scour sponge to clean the upper parts of the hob, such as the burner caps and plates, saying it is effective at cleaning the “stubborn” brown stains that often appear. Finally she cleans the pan supports with either the citrus cleaner she used on the counter tops or washing up liquid.
It was then the turn of the sink where she again used the Bar Keepers Power Clean to give it a good clean, then used disinfectant before buffing it down “so it’s all nice and shiny”.
Charlotte turns her attention to the bin which, if emptying, she says do first. She said: “Then we spray it down, leave the disinfection to work, and then dry it all off so it’s not leaving any drip mask or smears” and then “that’s the main kitchen done”.
She finishes the job by covering the “touch points” – disinfecting all door handles, light switches and sockets making sure they are all disinfected before moving on to dusting skirting boards and door frames. General dusting follows the sideboards, cabinets, mirrors and lamps, then vacuuming, pulling all the furniture out, finishing by mopping the entire floor.
Charlotte ends saying: “Pull out all the chairs on the table, and then making sure the entire floor has a good furab mop, and we are done. So, kitchen clean step by step complete.”
