Punjab government committed to provide social security to every needy woman: Bhagwant Mann

Chandigarh: Women often face the greatest financial difficulties when a family earning member leaves the family. At such a time, the pension scheme of Punjab Government for widows and destitute women is becoming an important basis of economic security and respect for lakhs of women of the state. This disclosure was made by Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljeet Kaur.

Amount released under the scheme

Sharing information related to the scheme, Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljeet Kaur said that an amount of more than Rs 305 crore has been released under this scheme being run by the Punjab Government for widows and destitute women till the month of May. He said that more than 6.91 lakh women across the state are availing the benefits of this scheme, due to which they are getting financial security and are able to live their lives with confidence. He further informed that a provision of more than Rs 1200 crore has been made by the Punjab Government for the effective operation of this scheme during the financial year 2026-27 and to extend the benefits to maximum eligible women.

Support for women’s respect and self-confidence

The Cabinet Minister said that this scheme is not only providing financial assistance to thousands of women but is also becoming a support to live life with dignity and confidence in difficult circumstances. He said that this effort is an important step towards strengthening the safety, respect and self-reliance of women. He said that the government firmly believes that real social progress is possible only when women are economically strong and socially empowered. According to this thinking, the Punjab Government is making continuous efforts to provide social security benefits to every eligible and needy woman.

Eligibility conditions of the scheme

Dr. Baljeet Kaur further said that this scheme is available for widows and destitute women below 58 years of age. Apart from this, unmarried women aged 30 years or above can also avail the benefits of this scheme. The annual income of the applicant’s family should not exceed Rs 60,000.

Reiterating the government’s commitment towards the welfare and empowerment of women, Dr. Baljeet Kaur said that the Punjab Government is continuously working to provide opportunities for a safe, dignified and better life to women so that every woman can play her role in the society with confidence and economic stability. He said that the state government is striving to build a more inclusive and sensitive Punjab by extending the benefits of welfare schemes to every weak and needy section of the society.
