The Bhagwant Mann government of Punjab has constituted a seven-member coordination committee to coordinate with Sri Akal Takht Sahib on matters related to the 'Jagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026'. This committee, formed under the order issued on September 16 by the Home and Justice Department of the government, will maintain constant contact and coordination with the committee constituted by Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
According to the government, the objective of the committee is to discuss important matters related to the Act and prepare necessary suggestions and reports. These reports will be submitted to the Punjab Government for further action and consideration.
Formation as per the instructions of Sri Akal Takht Sahib
According to the information released by the Punjab Government, the seven-member committee has been formed as per the instructions of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. The main function of the committee will be to coordinate with the committee formed by Sri Akal Takht Sahib on matters related to the Act.
Through this, arrangements have been made to maintain dialogue between the government and religious institutions on important issues related to the Act.
Who are in the committee?
People from religious, judicial, administrative and legal backgrounds have been included in the seven-member committee. Committee members:
- Former Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh
- Saint Giani Harnam Singh Khalsa, Chief of Damdami Taksal
- Sant Baba Seva Singh of Rampur Kheda
- Retired Justice Jaspal Singh
- Retired Justice Gurbir Singh
- Former IPS officer and former Chairman of Punjab Public Service Commission Jatinder Singh Aulakh
- Law officer Preet Inder Pal Singh is included.
By including members from different fields in the committee, arrangements have been made to discuss religious, legal and administrative aspects related to the Act.
What will this committee do?
This committee will not be limited to formal contacts only. According to the government order, there will be constant coordination with the committee constituted by Sri Akal Takht Sahib on matters related to the Act.
After deliberating on any important issue, the committee can submit its suggestions and report to the Punjab Government. Based on this the government will consider further action.
An important aspect of this arrangement is that a formal medium of communication will be available between the government and the Committee of Sri Akal Takht Sahib on matters related to the Act.
Government order issued on 16 September
The seven-member coordination committee has been constituted through an order issued on 16 September 2026 by the Home Department and Justice Department of the Punjab Government.
This has been described as a step taken by the government in accordance with the instructions of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. Now the committee will work to coordinate between the concerned parties on issues related to the Act.
Will keep an eye on further process
Now this seven-member committee will be an important medium of communication between the government and the committee constituted by Sri Akal Takht Sahib in matters related to 'Jagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026'.
In the coming time, further action of the government in various matters related to the Act will be monitored on the basis of committee meetings, suggestions and reports. At present, the government order has established a formal coordination mechanism for this process.
