Punjab Police conducted 722 raids across the state on Tuesday as the 'Gangstran Te Vaar' campaign entered its 203rd day, resulting in the arrest of 558 people and preventive action against 270 others, officials said.
Police teams also arrested eight proclaimed offenders during the statewide operation and recovered five weapons from those held. With Tuesday's arrests, the total number of people arrested since the campaign was launched has reached 59,579.
The 'Gangstran Te Vaar' campaign was launched by Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on January 20, 2026, with the objective of making Punjab free of gangster activity. District police teams have been conducting targeted operations in coordination with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab.
Special DGP (Law and Order) Praveen Sinha said a two-day 'Operation Prahaar-4.0' was also conducted in Ferozepur district as part of the campaign. The operation resulted in 262 arrests and the recovery of five pistols, seven live cartridges, 2.9 kg of heroin and 309 grams of ICE.
The police have urged citizens to share information about wanted criminals, gangsters and criminal activities through the Anti-Gangster Helpline at 93946-93946. Information can be provided anonymously.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Police's anti-drug campaign, 'Yudh Nashian Virudh', entered its 528th day. Police arrested 95 alleged drug smugglers and recovered 36.8 kg of heroin, 240 intoxicant pills and Rs 3,370 in drug money during the day.
The total number of drug smugglers arrested under the campaign has now reached 75,697 in 528 days.
As part of its de-addiction efforts, the police also persuaded seven people to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment on Tuesday.
