Ludhiana, July 25, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
A Station House Officer (SHO) of the Punjab Police has been suspended after a woman Inspector accused him of rape, criminal intimidation and cheating, leading to the registration of an FIR in Ludhiana Rural.
The accused, Sahibmeet Singh, SHO of Sudhar Police Station, has been booked on the complaint of the woman police officer at Mullanpur Dakha Police Station. The alleged incident dates back to November 2023.
According to the complainant, the two had known each other for a considerable period and had developed a personal relationship. She alleged that during a meeting at Mullanpur Dakha in November 2023, the SHO sexually assaulted her after she was allegedly administered an intoxicating substance.
The woman Inspector further alleged that when she confronted the SHO, he promised to marry her and continued the relationship on that assurance. She claimed he later backed out of the promise and also cheated her of money.
Ludhiana Rural Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ankur Gupta confirmed that the accused officer has been suspended and shifted to the Police Lines pending investigation.
Police said an FIR has been registered under Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. The accused officer is reportedly absconding since the registration of the case, and efforts are underway to trace him.
The SSP said the allegations would be investigated fairly and thoroughly in accordance with the law.
