He won the Grand Chess Tour (GCT) St. Louis Rapid & Blitz 2026 title played in St. Louis, USA. The 20-year-old Praggnanandhaa performed brilliantly throughout the tournament and became the champion with one round remaining.
Praggnanandhaa established a strong lead from the start. He played brilliantly in the rapid rounds and maintained his lead in the blitz as well. His closest rival, Uzbekistan’s Zavokhir Sindarov, remained untouched throughout the tournament.
St. Louis Rapid & Blitz’s first title
Praggnanandhaa drew a tough match against Sindarov before the final round, securing his title. He finished first with a total of 23.5 points, while Sindarov finished second with 22 points. With this victory, Praggnanandhaa won the St. Louis Rapid and Blitz title for the first time.
How much money was the reward?
He received $50,000 in prize money and 13 GCT points for his title. Praggnanandhaa lost only two of the 27 rapid and blitz matches throughout the tournament, demonstrating his excellent control. His sister and Woman Grandmaster R. Vaishali was also present at the St. Louis Chess Club to cheer him on during this historic title win.
