Rahul Gandhi: The political controversy over Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar has intensified. Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has made serious allegations against Gyanesh Kumar. In a press conference held on Thursday, Rahul Gandhi claimed that the country’s election process was being rigged and called CEC Gyanesh Kumar a ‘traitor’ and demanded his resignation.
“Vote theft undermines democracy,” said Rahul Gandhi. According to him, the Election Commission is an organization that protects the votes of the electorate and it is its responsibility to protect the votes. He said that the Constitution, laws and institutions have no meaning if votes are lost.
Questions raised on the process of Election Commission
CEC Gyanesh Kumar is being questioned by the opposition after a report came out about the process of the Election Commission. The report claimed that the two election commissioners had raised serious objections about 14 times in the last 10 months.
Rahul Gandhi held a press conference regarding this issue and presented his allegations regarding the election process. He said he was not just talking in the air but had evidence and information to support the allegations.
‘I’m not talking in the air’
Rahul Gandhi said, “I am not talking in the air. I have shown it with evidence.” He claimed that there was already a lot of information about election malpractice.
He further claimed that it was “100 percent certain” that the election was being rigged. However, this is Rahul Gandhi’s claim and the response of the Election Commission or other concerned parties needs to be viewed separately from this claim.
Rahul Gandhi’s serious allegations against Dyanesh Kumar
Rahul Gandhi took a direct hit at CEC Dyanesh Kumar, saying that Dyanesh Kumar is at the top of the list of people he calls “conspirators”.
He claimed that two election commissioners have raised questions against the performance of Gyanesh Kumar. Rahul Gandhi said that he himself had been raising such questions earlier, but his questions were ignored.
According to Rahul Gandhi, now two election commissioners have also raised questions about the damage and malpractices in the election system.
Rahul Gandhi demands resignation of CEC
Rahul Gandhi demanded that CEC Dyanesh Kumar should resign from his post immediately.
He said that he also has more information about the election process and the results will be out in the near future. He also praised the two election commissioners for allegedly bringing out the truth.
‘If votes are stolen, question on law making process too’
Rahul Gandhi claimed that if votes were stolen in elections and MPs elected to Parliament were elected on the basis of such votes, the legitimacy of the laws made by them also came into question.
He said that the whole matter would become clearer in the next six months and claimed that the information was already available.
Mention of the law exempting Election Commissioners from investigation
During the press conference, Rahul Gandhi also mentioned a law passed on 21 December 2023. According to him, after this law, the Election Commissioners have been kept out of the ambit of certain types of investigations.
He said that then on February 7, the Congress held a press conference on the issue of Maharashtra elections and presented its questions and evidence.
Rahul Gandhi further said that he then gave a dissent note to the Prime Minister, but his words were ignored. According to him only then the concerned person was appointed by the Prime Minister.
Amid Rahul Gandhi’s accusations on the whole issue, the political debate about the election process, the functioning of the Election Commission and the role of the Chief Election Commissioner has become more intense.
