New Delhi, Read: Rahul Gandhi held a meeting on Monday regarding election alliance in Uttar Pradesh. During this, he also reviewed the defeat of NSUI in Delhi University Students Union elections. According to Congress sources, the party wants to complete the election alliance work in Uttar Pradesh by October. Along with this, there is a plan to complete the distribution of tickets by October itself. Uttar Pradesh Congress in-charge Rajendra Pal Gautam wants to complete the work of distribution of tickets along with the alliance by October and Rahul Gandhi has also given his consent in this regard.
According to sources, Congress believes that after the issue of 'vote theft' in Uttar Pradesh, the party's position has strengthened and people's trust in Gandhi's leadership has increased. The party also says that its alliance with the Samajwadi Party should be respectable and hence preparations are on to finalize the alliance by October. He said that the party leadership wants to complete all the work related to the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections by October and start preparing for the elections.
The aim of the party is to oust BJP from power.
Party leaders say that the process of election preparations will naturally be completed only after the final decision on seat sharing with the Samajwadi Party. The state in-charge of the party as well as prominent leaders of the state Congress were present in the meeting. Congress' Uttar Pradesh in-charge Rajendra Pal Gautam is continuously saying that Congress is ready to adopt a completely flexible policy regarding alliance. The aim of the party is to oust BJP from power. Sources said that work is going on to make major changes at the organizational level in Uttar Pradesh and the list of new officials may be revealed in two-three days.
NSUI could not win even one of the four major posts.
Rahul Gandhi also held a meeting with officials of the party's student wing NSUI on Monday, in which extensive discussions were held regarding the party's defeat in the Delhi University Students' Union elections. Along with NSUI President, organization in-charge Kanhaiya Kumar was also present in the meeting. NSUI could not win even one of the four major posts in DUSU elections. NSUI had nominated Veer Chatrath as its candidate for the post of Vice President, while Dipanshu Shaukeen, who contested the election as an independent candidate after not getting a ticket from the party, won. According to sources, various aspects related to election strategy including candidate selection and ticket distribution were discussed in the meeting.
