Rain and flood caused devastation in Jammu and Kashmir, 10 people died so far in Poonch
Jammu and Kashmir are receiving heavy rains, due to which the situation has become very serious in many districts. Heavy rains have caused devastation in Poonch district. In the flood of Pulastya river in Poonch district, two shops, a flour mill and a vehicle service station were washed away and many vehicles were washed away. An 18-year-old youth has died after a house collapsed in Sangleyani village of Surankot tehsil, while eight people are trapped in the house.
Heavy rains, flash floods and landslides have caused large-scale devastation in Poonch district. According to initial reports, 10 people have been confirmed dead so far, including 9 in Surankote (6 from the same family) and 1 in Haveli.
At least 7 houses have been damaged in Haveli, while there is news of damage to property from Mandi also. Rescue and relief operations are underway; Officials have warned that the death toll may increase as more information comes from the affected areas. Dozens of people may still be buried under the debris.
Along with this, a woman died and three people were injured when a house collapsed in Nuna Bandi village. Most of the roads in the district have been closed due to landslides caused by heavy rains. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed deep grief over the loss of life and property in the flash floods and landslides in Poonch. He also expressed condolences to the bereaved families and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
He said the administration, “SDRF, police and other agencies are carrying out rescue and relief operations. Officials have been directed to provide immediate assistance to the affected families.” In view of the weather warning, CM Abdullah said that he will return to Jammu from Delhi to personally take stock of the situation and is in constant touch with local MLAs to coordinate relief operations.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha wrote in a post on social media platform
The Lieutenant Governor further wrote, “The affected families have been evacuated to safe places. All departments are on high alert and they are giving priority to immediate relief and repair work. I urge residents to remain calm and follow official updates. I am deeply saddened by the loss of life and property in Haveli and Surankote areas of Rajouri and Poonch. My thoughts are with the bereaved families.”
“The heavy rains have also damaged several houses in Rajouri and Poonch. I have directed officials to provide immediate assistance to all affected families in both the districts and ensure that emergency teams are fully prepared for any eventuality,” Manoj Sinha wrote.
