New Delhi: The first Test of the series between India and Sri Lanka is being played at the Galle International Stadium. Rain caused disruption on the second day too, but the Indian batsmen thrashed the Sri Lankan bowlers as soon as they got the chance.
The game started late due to rain
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, India made a strong score of 288/2 on the first day. The second day's play was to start at 10 am, but due to heavy rain the match was stopped till late afternoon. Many overs were wasted. As soon as the game started, Rishabh Pant and Devdutt Padikkal came to the crease.
Padikkal's dream came true, innings of 167 runs
Padikkal maintained the rhythm of the first day. He scored 167 runs in 230 balls. Along with the shots in the innings, the footwork against spin was also excellent. Pant did not last long. He was out after scoring 39 runs in 62 balls.

After this Dhruv Jurel took charge. Jurel played a useful inning of 51 runs in 68 balls. Manav Suthar contributed 24 runs. By the end of the second day's play, India's score was 460/9. India now seems to be completely dominating Sri Lanka.
"dreamed of this moment" – Padikkal
After the end of the day's play, Padikkal said, "yes of course. I dreamed of this moment. I have been working very hard for the last two years so that when I get a chance, I can do something special. Very happy to be able to do this."
On aggressive starts against spin he said, "We have talked about this a lot. It is important to have a plan in mind when you are facing spin. Footwork is also important." For Padikkal, this century is not just a run. This is a big step towards cementing his place in the team.
What will happen on the third day?
Now on the third day, India will try to declare the innings as soon as possible and put Sri Lanka in to bat. The score of 460 runs is already big and the spinners on the pitch may get help.
It will be difficult for Sri Lanka to make a comeback now. Indian bowlers will also have a chance to increase their lead further. Rain still remained a threat on the Galle pitch, but India took full advantage of the second day and took control of the match.
