‘Raja Shivaji’ set for strong box office opening in Marathi cinema
The Marathi film Raja Shivaji has shown a strong start at the box office, with early trends indicating a record-breaking opening for Marathi cinema.
The film Raja Shivaji is based on the historical figure Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj who is recognized as one of India’s greatest warrior kings. It releases on May 1 in Hindi, Marathi and Telugu.
Reports stated that the film performed well in advance bookings. By Thursday afternoon, it had sold around 1 lakh tickets for its opening day. Trade reports also suggested that advance bookings reached nearly ₹2.5 crore, including contributions from its Hindi version.

Industry tracking data further showed that ticket sales continued at a steady pace on booking platforms, raising expectations for a strong opening weekend.
Trade estimates indicated that the film was likely to collect around ₹6–7 crore net in Marathi markets on day one. The Hindi version was also expected to add over ₹1 crore, mainly from Maharashtra.
Overall, early predictions suggested an opening of around ₹8–9 crore in India, with chances of crossing ₹10 crore if momentum continued.
Earlier, Riteish Deshmukh had shared details about how Salman Khan became part of his upcoming film Raja Shivaji, even though he was not originally approached for the role.

He shared, “He asked when I was starting to shoot the movie. I said, ‘It’s starting this month.’ He said, ‘Which role am I playing?’”
Riteish added that he had not planned a role for Salman Khan at that stage. However, the actor’s response was direct and warm.
The film was also compared with earlier Marathi and Hindi historical films. The previous Marathi record opening was held by Sairat, which collected ₹4.2 crore on its first day.
