Pali: Transport Nagar police station on Friday seized a trailer loaded with English liquor and beer worth about Rs 1.25 crore in a major crackdown on illegal liquor smuggling.
The smugglers had hidden the cartons of liquor behind sacks of corn and were preparing to transport the consignment to Gujarat. Police arrested two suspects at the scene.
A police team led by Transport Nagar police station in-charge Hanuwant Singh Sisodia was patrolling the overbridge area near the police station on Friday afternoon when they spotted a trailer parked in a suspicious condition.
The police brought the trailer to the police station and interrogated him. The driver claimed the trailer was loaded with corn, but upon searching, a large quantity of Punjab-made liquor and 1,042 cartons of beer were found hidden behind the corn sacks.
The police arrested Kaluram (50), a resident of Garhbhopji Thoi in Sikar district, and Jethu Singh (43), a resident of Dholiya (Jaswantgarh) in Didwana district, who were travelling in the trailer.
The trailer and illicit liquor were seized during the operation. Head Constables Ramniwas Jat, Jassa Ram Kumawat, and Constable Vijay Chaudhary played a key role in this operation.
Police are now investigating who brought this consignment of illicit liquor from Punjab and where in Gujarat it was intended to be delivered. Interrogation of the two arrested suspects is ongoing, and the entire smuggling network is being investigated.
