Anupam Kher: Anupam Kher’s brother, actor-director Raju Kher recently spoke about facing financial crunch after being cheated in a television project. Raju admitted that he hoped that his brother, who by then had become a well-known actor, would help him during the financial crisis. However, he was surprised when he did not get the help he expected.
‘Sold the flat to invest in the show’
Talking about this incident and how he sold his house to make a show for a channel that disappeared overnight, Raju told Siddharth Kannan, ‘There was a time when I was going through a bad phase. I had sold my house because a new channel was coming, so I bought a flat somewhere else. A new channel was about to be launched and many people were making pilots, agreements had already been signed. I had also made a program ‘Will do anything for life’. Suddenly, I realized that the channel had disappeared. I had invested the money I got by selling the flat in that program. I thought my life was first-class, had a 4-BHK house, everything was set for the family. And then, the channel disappeared and no one knew what happened… there was just a lock on their door.”
When Anupam Kher left his brother
Raju was not getting any work and was also under pressure to pay rent. In this difficult period, he hoped that Anupam Kher would help him. But, Anupam was also going through difficult times professionally, because he had stopped taking projects waiting for good roles. This made Raju feel that his brother could have done more to help him. He said, “I also felt pressured to pay the rent. I had no one else, I could only talk to my brother, and I thought he would help me. But at that time, he had also stopped working. The reason was that he didn’t want to do any of those weird films, he wanted good roles. So, I felt that my brother didn’t help me. ‘He could have done this,’ was my thinking at that time.”
Why was Anupam Kher not together?
However, during the same conversation, Raju admitted that although he expected Anupam to help him, he later got a different perspective after reading an interview of his brother. Raju remembered reading an interview in which Anupam had talked about his desire to have a child. For those who don’t know, Anupam is married to actor Kirron Kher. Kirron was Sikandar Kher’s mother from her first marriage, and Anupam has often described Sikandar as his child. Raju said that after hearing Anupam regretting not having a child of his own, he realized that he had taken his brother for granted. He had assumed that because Anupam was financially successful, he had no problems of his own. Raju finally understood that his brother was also struggling with his own problems.
