Rajya Sabha Elections 2026: BJP releases list of 11 candidates including Tarun Chugh
New Delhi, June 4. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday released the list of candidates for the biennial Rajya Sabha elections 2026. In the list released by the party’s national general secretary and headquarters in-charge Arun Singh, Charun Chugh and others have been made candidates on 10 vacant seats in five states. Apart from this, the party also declared a candidate for the by-election on a Rajya Sabha seat in Odisha.
According to the list, Tai Tagak has been made the candidate from Arunachal Pradesh, while Rajubhai Shukla, Mukeshbhai Rathwa, Mansingh Parmar, Jitendra Meghjibhai and Kanjariya have been made the candidates from Gujarat.
The party has fielded national spokesperson Tarun Chugh and Rajneesh Aggarwal as candidates from Madhya Pradesh. Similarly, A. Sharadi Devi from Manipur, Dr. Alka Gurjar and Satish Punia from Rajasthan have been made candidates while Debashish Samantrai will be the party’s candidate for the proposed by-election in Odisha.

Satish Poonia, former state president of Rajasthan BJP, started his career in student politics and gradually reached the top. Poonia has also been the Deputy Leader of Opposition in Rajasthan Assembly. Presently he is also in-charge of Haryana BJP. If seen, since Poonia belongs to the Jat community, he has expertise in solving political equations in both the states of Rajasthan and Haryana.
Similarly, Tarun Chugh, coming from Amritsar, Punjab, joined RSS at a young age. He is currently the National General Secretary of BJP. He is considered the party’s troubleshooter and election strategist. He has been in-charge of the states of Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh and Telangana.
Debashish Samantrai, considered a grassroots leader of Cuttack region of Odisha, left Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and joined BJP in May 2026. Just a day before joining BJP, he had also resigned from the post of Rajya Sabha MP. That is why by-elections are being held there.
