The torrential rains that have been continuing for the past several hours have created a flood-like situation in the entire region. The swollen Mandakini river is flowing well above the danger mark. Due to the sudden breach of Gorgi Dam in the area, the flood water rapidly spread towards the residential settlements, which further increased the pace of devastation. Due to this horrific disaster, about 300 meter long bridge built on the historical Ramghat of Chitrakoot was washed away in the strong current and all the shops on the banks were submerged.

A yellow alert has been issued for rain with intense thunder and lightning for the next five days. At the same time, the Indian Meteorological Department has today warned of heavy rain and thunderstorm in 26 states of the country.
