Vivek Oberoi Struggle Story: The beginning of the career of Vivek Oberoi, who entered Bollywood with Ram Gopal Varma (RGV)’s cult classic film ‘Company’ released in 2002, has been very interesting. During a recent interview, his father and veteran actor Suresh Oberoi revealed how hard he had to struggle to get his son his first break in the film industry. Suresh Oberoi recalled that he used to visit the offices of many producers and directors with Vivek’s photographs, only then he got a chance in Ram Gopal Varma’s film.

During a conversation on Nidhi Vasandani’s YouTube channel, Suresh Oberoi told that to start his son’s career, he had to relive his old days of struggle. Suresh said, “I had to fight again for Vivek. Just like in my initial days I used to go to producers with my pictures, similarly I was wandering from one office to another with Vivek’s pictures.”
At that time, Suresh Oberoi himself was working in a project of Ram Gopal Varma and the director was looking for new faces for the ‘Company’. When RGV expressed his desire to see Vivek’s work, Suresh showed him an audition tape from Vivek’s acting institute. RGV himself came home to watch the tape and was immediately impressed by Vivek’s acting.

Suresh Oberoi told that after watching Vivek’s performance in ‘Company’ on the big screen, he became very emotional and had tears in his eyes. Although Vivek has played many memorable characters in his career, as a father, Suresh likes Vivek’s work most in the film ‘Saathiya’ with Rani Mukherjee.

Interestingly, Vivek Oberoi has a slightly different perspective on this story of getting the film. In an old interview, Vivek had told that he had clearly refused to work in his father’s production and he wanted to make his mark in the industry without any family influence. Vivek had revealed that he deliberately did not use the surname ‘Oberoi’ and he used to go for auditions under the name ‘Vivek Anand’. He waited in long lines outside the production houses for 6 to 10 hours and after facing tough struggle and rejections for almost two years, he got the ‘company’ on the basis of his ability.
When RGV said, ‘You are very polished’, changed your appearance after living in a slum.
Vivek had told that Ram Gopal Varma had initially rejected him for the role of Chandu in ‘Company’, because the director felt that he looked too ‘polished’ and sophisticated for the role of a gangster. To break this notion, Vivek lived in a slum in Mumbai for three weeks, learned the customs there and got a special photoshoot done by a struggling photographer. When he reached RGV’s office again after fully getting into character, the director was stunned and cast him immediately.
Vivek will be seen in ‘Ramayanam’
Talking about the work front, Vivek Oberoi, famous for films like ‘Masti’, ‘Saathiya’ and ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’, will soon be seen in director Nitish Tiwari’s much awaited film ‘Ramayanam’, in which big stars like Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi are included.
