Journey from MLA directly to Assembly Speaker for the first time
Rathindra Bose was elected MLA for the first time on BJP ticket from Cooch Behar South region of North Bengal in the recently held assembly elections. His political journey has been full of organizational experience, although legislative experience has been limited. Despite this, the party expressed confidence in him and nominated him for the highest post of the House.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari proposed his name in the elections held during the special session, which received support from both the ruling party and the opposition. Since Trinamool Congress did not field any candidate for the post of President, it was already considered certain that Bose would be elected unopposed.
Long term association with RSS and BJP organization
Rathindra Bose is a chartered accountant by profession and has been associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the BJP for a long time. He has played an important role in the organizational expansion of the party in North Bengal. He has also performed organizational responsibilities as BJP State Vice President and North Bengal Convener. North Bengal is considered a stronghold of the BJP and Bose has contributed to strengthening the party’s grassroots hold in this region. According to political analysts, his organizational experience can help him in administrative responsibilities.
In his first address after being elected President, Rathindra Bose said that he will fulfill his responsibility following the principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas”. He thanked all the members of the Assembly and the party leadership and said that his aim would be to strengthen the democratic process while maintaining the dignity of the House. Bose also indicated that he would run the House in a fair and balanced manner, giving all parties equal opportunity to present their views.
Assembly proceedings will be telecast live
On this occasion, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari made an important announcement and said that now the entire proceedings of the West Bengal Assembly will be telecast live. This is being considered a big step towards transparency and accountability. The Chief Minister said that the public has every right to know what their representatives say in the House and how they raise public issues. He said that this decision will make democracy stronger.
In his address, Suvendu Adhikari adopted a soft stance towards the opposition and said that no MLA should be suspended unnecessarily. He stressed that all members should play an active role in the Assembly through question hour, debate and discussion. He also said that the role of the opposition is an important part of democracy and their voice should also be given full respect.
