Government sets targets for LPG production

With the aim of maintaining adequate supply of LPG in the country and reducing dependence on imports, the Central Government has for the first time set refinery-wise production targets for oil marketing companies. Reliance Industries has been given the biggest target of production of 18,000 tonnes per day. At the same time, a total target of 31,470 tonnes per day has been set for public sector refineries.

The government has taken this step to reduce the risks associated with import dependence due to increasing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. As per available data, more than 64 percent of India's LPG requirement is met through imports. In such a situation, this initiative is considered important towards increasing domestic production.
