Before the Galle Test, Gill was India's highest run-scorer in the WTC. He had 2,867 runs in 72 innings of 41 matches, but even after adding 24 runs in both the innings of the Test against Sri Lanka, he remained behind Pant.
On the other hand, Rishabh Pant scored 39 runs on 62 balls in the first innings of this test. After this, by playing an inning of 66 runs in the second innings, he took his number of WTC runs to 2,885. Now Pant has scored 2,885 runs in 73 innings of 41 WTC matches.
