New Delhi: A horrific road accident in Kerala's Thrissur district late Friday night left eight families in deep shock. A car collided with a lorry parked due to road construction work on National Highway-66. Eight people in the car lost their lives in the accident. According to initial information, all the deceased are said to be students from Tamil Nadu.
The accident happened around 11:40 pm
According to the police, the accident occurred at Panampikkunnu area near Kaipamangalam around 11:40 pm on Friday night. The car, registered in Tamil Nadu, was going to Kodungallur from Guruvayur. Meanwhile, due to the ongoing construction work on the road, a lorry was standing in the same direction.
It is being told that the car collided directly with a parked lorry. The collision was so severe that the front part of the car was completely damaged and the people inside it were trapped inside.
Seven people died on the spot
There was hue and cry at the spot after the accident. Local people immediately informed the police and rescue team. Police along with fire and rescue personnel reached the spot and started the relief operation.
According to the police, seven people died on the spot in the accident. Rescue workers had to cut parts of the vehicle to get the two injured people out of the car. Later the injured were taken to the hospital for treatment, where another injured died.
Clue related to Dindigul College
The process of identification of the dead is going on. The identity card of a student of PSNA Engineering College, Dindigul has been found from the spot. On this basis, the police suspect that the people in the car were students from Tamil Nadu. Police are now trying to identify all the deceased and contact their families.
Bodies sent to Thrissur Medical College
After the completion of the rescue operation, the bodies of the deceased were sent to the mortuary of Thrissur Medical College. Police have started investigating the cause of the accident by collecting information related to the car and lorry involved in the accident. At present, the police is also trying to find out what arrangements were made for safety in the road construction area at the time of the accident and under what circumstances the car collided with the lorry.
