Roger Schmidt appointed Red Bull Head of Global Soccer after Jürgen Klopp exit

The 59-year-old returns to the Red Bull network after previously managing Red Bull Salzburg between 2012 and 2014, guiding the club to an Austrian Bundesliga and Cup double in his final season. He subsequently coached Leverkusen, Beijing Guoan, PSV Eindhoven and Benfica.

Schmidt takes over from Klopp, who held the role for less than two years before leaving to become head coach of the Germany national team following Julian Nagelsmann’s resignation.

“We are delighted to welcome Roger Schmidt back to Red Bull,” said Red Bull sporting director Oliver Mintzlaff.
