According to the report of Indian Express, the senior selection committee of BCCI has told Rohit Sharma during the England tour that after the series, he will not be included in the future plans of the ODI team. The report also said that the selectors have decided to give opportunities to young players keeping in mind the future of the team. It is reported that the selection committee and head coach Gautam Gambhir had discussed this topic with Rohit Sharma.

Focus on young players like Yashasvi Jaiswal

According to the report, the selectors now want to give more opportunities to young players including Yashasvi Jaiswal. It has also been claimed that the board is keeping an eye on the preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup and changes in the team are being planned under the same strategy.

Rohit Sharma has already left two formats

Rohit Sharma has already retired from two international formats. He retired from T20 International on 29 June 2024 after India’s T20 World Cup victory.
He had announced his retirement from Test cricket on 7 May 2025. In such a situation, it has been claimed in the report that now his journey in ODI cricket is also likely to end.
