According to media reports, the third ODI match to be played between India and England at Lord’s on July 19 could be the last match of Rohit Sharma’s international career. It has been said in the reports that the senior selectors of BCCI have decided to keep Rohit out of the team after the England series. The committee has also convinced Rohit for this. This means that the possibility has now increased that Rohit Sharma will not be able to be a part of the ODI World Cup 2027.

Lord’s ODI could be Rohit Sharma’s last international match

According to a report in the Indian Express, after the end of the England series, Rohit Sharma will not be a part of Team India’s future plans. Team India’s selectors spoke to Rohit Sharma along with head coach Gautam Gambhir last week and told about the future plan. The selection committee wants to give a chance in ODI to young players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has been trying for a long time to get into the team. This makes it clear that the selection committee is not considering including Sharma in the team for the 2027 ODI World Cup. However, after working on fitness, Rohit wanted to continue playing. The selectors have left it to Rohit Sharma to decide his future.

Rohit Sharma may be out of ODI World Cup 2027

According to the report, Rohit Sharma had also talked to some BCCI officials during the England series and they were not happy with this decision. Rohit Sharma has already retired from T20 International and Test. Rohit had announced his retirement just hours after leading India to the T20 World Cup 2024 title.

Selectors want to give opportunity to youth in place of Rohit Sharma

After this, he suddenly announced his Test retirement on 7 May 2025. After Hitman’s retirement from Test cricket, Team India’s selection committee, in consultation with the team management, had decided to give a chance to mostly young players keeping in mind the future of Indian cricket. ODI captaincy was also taken from Rohit and handed over to Shubman Gill. Now reports are saying that Hitman is not a part of Team India’s future plans. That means he will not be a part of the ODI World Cup 2027 either.

Rohit Sharma’s bat has not played in the ODI series against England

Rohit Sharma has not batted in this ODI series against England. In the first ODI match, Rohit was out after scoring only 11 runs in 21 balls. Now even in the second ODI match, there was no big innings from the hitman’s bat. In this match, Rohit Sharma was out after scoring only 26 runs on 47 balls. During this, one four and one six came from his bat. In this match, Rohit batted at a strike rate of around 55. Whereas in the first ODI also he batted with the same strike rate. Rohit’s strike rate might have increased the selectors’ concern.
