RR vs GT: The path to the playoffs will be difficult, the battle for top-4 between Rajasthan and Gujarat, there will be a fierce battle in Jaipur.
Jaipur. Teenage batting prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi will once again carry the burden of expectations of Rajasthan Royals on his shoulders, when they will face Gujarat Titans in an important match of IPL 2026 to be held at Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Saturday. Both the teams are giving a tough competition to make it to the playoffs.
The sensational 15-year-old has scripted the biggest story of this season, and made Rajasthan Royals one of the most dangerous batting units in this tournament. With 404 runs in 10 innings and a massive strike rate of 237.65, Suryavanshi has made his mark as one of the hottest rising stars of IPL 2026 despite his young age.
This match on Saturday is taking place at a very important juncture of the tournament. Both Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans are tied on 12 points each from 10 matches, although the Royals currently have a better net run rate. With only a few matches left in the league, another defeat could be a major blow to any team’s hopes of reaching the playoffs. The pressure is even greater for Rajasthan as they have had a disappointing performance at home this season.
Despite starting the tournament on a strong note with four consecutive wins, Rajasthan surprisingly lost both their matches in Jaipur. Now the team is in danger of not making it to the top-2, unless they regain their old glory at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Most of the burden of this responsibility is on the shoulders of Suryavanshi, whose fearless batting has made both fans and experts crazy.
His brilliant 103 off just 37 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier this season is one of the most memorable innings of this tournament. Due to their aggressive starts at the top of the order, Rajasthan has been able to consistently score or chase big scores. This young player has also got strong support from Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has quietly scored more than 300 runs in this season.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel, on the other hand, has performed brilliantly in his increased batting role following the departure of former captain Sanju Samson from the team. Captain Riyan Parag has also returned to his old form after playing a stormy innings of 90 runs in the last match, which has also removed the concerns raised about his fluctuating performance this season. Rajasthan’s batting depth has been further strengthened with the explosive finishing abilities of Donovan Ferreira lower down the order. Their bowling attack, led by England fast bowler Joffra Archer, has also played a vital role.
Archer has taken 15 wickets this season and has got strong support from South African left-arm fast bowler Nandre Berger. The spin pair of Ravindra Jadeja and Ravi Bishnoi has given balance to the team in the middle overs. However, Gujarat is also entering the fray as an equally strong contender.
After losing their opening two matches, they have made a spectacular comeback by winning six out of the next eight matches. Captain Shubman Gill has led the team from the front, while Sai Sudarshan continues to dominate the list of highest run-scorers for the franchise.
England’s experienced batsman Jos Buttler has also strengthened the team in the upper order. Gujarat has one of the most dangerous bowling attacks of the tournament. South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has taken 16 wickets, while Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna have consistently given success to the team with the new ball. Historically, Gujarat has dominated this contest; Gujarat has won six of the nine matches played between the two teams, including the final of IPL 2022.
However, the last time the two teams met this season, Rajasthan had won narrowly by six runs, which has increased the excitement for Saturday’s match even more. Jaipur’s pitch has seen high-scoring matches so far during IPL 2026, with the average score in the first innings being 226.
In both the matches played on this ground this season, the teams chasing the target have won, due to which the toss can once again prove to be decisive. With the pressure of the playoffs mounting and a teenage superstar continuing to make headlines at the national level, all eyes will now be on ‘Sooryavanshi’ as Rajasthan looks to get their domestic campaign back on track against one of their toughest rivals.
