Rules for free bus travel changed in Delhi, Pink Saheli card mandatory from September 1; Deadline extended by 15 days

Delhi government has once again increased the facility of free travel in DTC and cluster buses for women. Now women passengers will be able to travel free in buses through Pink Ticket till 31st August. Earlier the deadline for this facility was set till July 31. After this the government took it forward. Now once again, the women passengers of the capital will get relief by extending the period of pink ticket facility. Under the Pink Ticket Scheme, women of Delhi can travel for free in DTC and cluster buses. While traveling in the bus, women passengers are issued pink tickets, for which they do not have to pay fare.

Pink Saheli smart card mandatory postponed

In a new official order issued by DTC on Friday evening, important information has been given regarding the arrangement of free bus travel for women. According to the earlier instructions of Delhi Transport Department, 'Pink Saheli' smart card was to be made mandatory from August 16. However, now this arrangement has been taken forward. DTC said in its new order that it has been decided to continue the existing system to ensure smooth transition to the smart card based system. Under this, women will continue to get the facility of free travel through pink ticket. According to the DTC order, the instructions related to the new system will be followed with immediate effect in all DTC buses. That is, instead of making Pink Saheli Smart Card mandatory from August 16, the existing Pink Ticket system has been continued.

DTC has fixed a new date for the facility of free bus travel for the women of Delhi. Pink tickets will remain valid in DTC and cluster buses till 31st August. Under this, pink tickets will be issued to women passengers for free travel. According to the new order issued by DTC, 'Pink Saheli' smart card will be made mandatory from September 1. That means, after September 1, women will have to use Pink Saheli Smart Card to avail the benefit of free bus travel. Actually, according to the previous order of DTC, Pink Saheli Smart Card was to be made mandatory from August 16. But to ensure smooth transition to the smart card based system, the period of the existing pink ticket system has been extended.

Pink Saheli Smart Card mandatory from September 1

'Pink Saheli Smart Card' will be mandatory for eligible women passengers availing free travel in DTC and cluster buses from September 1, 2026. Women passengers who do not have this card will have to buy regular tickets to travel in the bus and pay the fixed fare. DTC has appealed to the women passengers to get their smart card made from the designated 'Pink Saheli Card Distribution Center' before 31 August 2026. Due to this, there will be no problem in availing the facility of free bus travel from 1st September. In the order, all depot managers, regional managers, conductors and enforcement staff have been instructed to inform as many passengers as possible about the new date. Women passengers in buses will also be advised to get Pink Saheli smart card made in time.
