Filed through advocate Sana Raees Khan, the plea highlights the illicit use of Ganguly’s name, photographs, and likeness across online e-commerce platforms, booking portals, and social media sites without her consent.
The actor pointed out that several online boutiques have used her photos to market clothing, falsely suggesting her endorsement. Additionally, unauthorised talent management platforms have claimed to arrange her appearances for private events to boost their own profits.
The petition raises critical concerns regarding generative AI, face-morphing, and deepfake technology. Ganguly flagged instances of explicit, vulgar, and manipulated imagery being generated and circulated on platforms like SeaArt AI and Reddit, arguing that such content severely infringes upon her privacy, dignity, and reputation built over decades.
Naming 18 respondents—including Reddit, Google LLC, SeaArt AI, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT)—Ganguly has urged the court to issue dynamic takedown orders for infringing links and prohibit unauthorised commercial use of her persona. Justice Madhav Jamdar is scheduled to hear the interim plea on November 4.
