Moradabad. The competition to take credit within the Samajwadi Party has come to the fore in Thakurdwara Assembly seat of Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh. SP MLA from Thakurdwara Nawab Jan Khan claimed during a recent interview that the two big bridges built on the Ramganga river were built due to his tireless efforts. However, his claim is no longer being accepted within his own party. Senior SP leader Engineer Iqbal Hussain has raised serious questions on this statement of the MLA and deflated his claims. After this war of words, a heated debate broke out between the supporters of the two leaders on social media.
MLA Nawab Jaan Khan's claim regarding bridge construction
The whole controversy started when MLA Nawab Jaan Khan enumerated the development works of his tenure in an interview given to a local media channel. During this period, he gave himself full credit for the construction of two important lifelines of the area – the bridge connecting Thakurdwara to Kanth and the bridge connecting Thakurdwara to Seohara. The MLA said that both the bridges were found due to his tireless efforts. As soon as the video of his statement surfaced, there was a stir in the political circles and the leaders of his own party opened a front before those of his opponents.
Engineer Iqbal Hussain reminded the date of 1989
Countering these claims of the MLA, SP leader Engineer Iqbal Hussain, while talking to UPUKLive, turned the pages of history and said that the foundation stone of Seohara bridge was laid in the year 1989 itself. Nawab Jaan Khan became MLA for the first time in 2014, even before he entered the House, the construction work of that bridge was completed.
Iqbal Hussain sarcastically said that either the MLA is not aware of history and facts, or he is deliberately trying to take credit for the work of others in his own pocket. He made it clear that Nawab Jaan had no personal role in building these bridges, rather all this was the result of the policies of the Samajwadi Party and the governments.
Mention of old controversies and conflict on social media
SP leader Iqbal Hussain, while reminding an old incident, said that the MLA had said similar things in the swearing-in ceremony of former block chief of Dilari, Syed Mujahid Ali. At that time, he had a heated argument with the then Kanth MLA Anisur Rahman regarding this issue.
In fact, both these bridges on the Ramganga river have great importance in the politics of western UP as they connect Thakurdwara with neighboring districts and towns. In such a situation, now that the fight to take credit within the party has come to the surface, the workers are also confused. Supporters of both the groups are face to face on Facebook and are trying to prove each other's claims false.
