Samsung has rolled out an upgraded sleep apnea feature for its Galaxy Ring and Watch9 in the US.

NEW DELHI, Nov 4: Samsung has announced the availability of an upgraded sleep apnea feature for its Galaxy Ring and Galaxy Watch9 in the United States. This feature, which received regulatory approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in recent months, enhances sleep health monitoring for users.
The previous version of the feature could only detect signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea. The new upgrade, however, provides a more comprehensive analysis of a user’s sleep vitals, offering insights into the level of breathing disruptions detected. This improved functionality aims to facilitate more meaningful discussions between users and their healthcare providers.
The feature is accessible through the Samsung Health Monitor app and is designed for individuals aged 18 and older. Users need to obtain valid sleep data over two nights within a 10-day period to receive a risk evaluation. The upgraded feature is not a substitute for a formal diagnosis from a medical professional.
Current Galaxy Watch users running Wear OS 7.0 or later can utilize the feature immediately. The Galaxy Watch8 and Galaxy Watch7 will receive it through upcoming software updates. Samsung’s Galaxy Ring, recognized as the first smart ring to offer an FDA-cleared sleep apnea risk detection feature, is also included in this rollout. The device’s lightweight design allows for comfortable overnight wear.
Samsung’s commitment to improving sleep health technology has been recognized with multiple regulatory approvals. According to Jongmin Choi from Samsung Electronics, “This approval from Korea’s MFDS reflects our commitment to accessible innovation.” He emphasized the importance of empowering users to identify potential early signs of sleep apnea and to manage their well-being proactively.
Samsung plans to continue expanding the availability of this feature to more regions, maintaining its status as a leader in health technology.
